Queen's day

Samuli Schielke

30 April 10.30 - 16.30 hr

On 30 April all of the Netherlands turns into an orange festival with flea markets and music, also the Charloisse Kerksingel in front of the doors of Hommes.
Since 2006, Samuli Schielke makes instant portraits wich a large format camera of people strolling at the flea markets on Queen's Day. His models are free to decide how they want to appear in the picture. They receive their portrait one minute later for a small price.  He works with Polaroid instant film that produces both a positive and a negative. The positive is sold for a small price and he keeps the negative from which more prints can be made.

Samuli Schielke is a full-time cultural anthropologist and part-time photographer living and working between Rotterdam and Berlin. This exhibit features a first selection of the portraits of Queen's day, printed on baryta base paper made between 2007 and 2009.

O 30 April Schielke will also set his camera in front of the gallery and make one last round of Queen's Day portraits.
